Raven diary #48 a springtime quest pt 2

Dear diary,

Raven here.

When we arrive at Catfur River, Perky and Callie stand up and try their best to look official.

“Alright cats. Listen up,” yowls Callie. “A few simple rules before we start.”

“Number one,” says Perky. “There are fish in this river. It may seem tempting, but DO NOT even attempt to eat them. It’s their home and we’re documenting and watching the animals we find, not taking away their precious lives.”

They go over a couple more boring guidelines, and minutes later, we’re ready to go.

“And now,” says Perky. “We present to you, pawmade by us, the Rat River Raft!”

Perky pushes back the bushes and we gasp as a huge, magnificent raft plunges into the river. The raft is ornately carved from wood end to end with vines woven throughout it. In the middle of the raft is a little drawing of a cat eating a rat.

“It’s beautiful,” I meow. “Let’s take it for a test drive.”

As we paddle our way down the river, I feel less and less afraid of the water. In fact, I feel at peace with the river. I know we’re supposed to hate water, but nothing on earth, not even us felines would be here without it.

“Look,” Perky meows, interrupting my thoughts “Our first creatures!”

Sure enough, we’re surrounded by red, orange and white blobs.  Perky and Callie gasp.

“Jellyfish,” Honeytoast whispers. “Be careful everyone. They could sting us at any moment.”

“Who are those weird animals watching us,” I hear a jellyfish blub from under the waves.

Before things can go from bad to worse, Lolli yowls down, “Have no fear, weird aquatic beings. We come in peace!”

“We just want to document some interesting facts about your species for our adventure log,” says Perky. “Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!????????”

We barely hear the blobby creatures think it over. A few minutes later, a large red jelly pipes up.

“NO!” she yells. “Whoever and whatever you are, uou cannot watch us. This is our home and you can’t just barge in here and destroy it!”

“We’re not trying to destroy your home,” I meow. “We love Catfur River. Why would you even suggest that we’re causing harm by coming here?”

“We need our space,” one white jelly says. “Because we don’t want anything harming our water. Now please get out of here and find some other creatures to document.”

We continue on and find that it’s not just the jellyfish that want their privacy. A troop of monkeys up in a tree just pester us with weird, earsplitting shrieks. A flock of colorful parrots just squawk and copy every sentence we say right in our faces. It’s all so annoying.

“What do we do?” whispers Lolli as we pad away from the parrots. “These animals aren’t listening to us. We just wanna get a couple pictures for feline’s sake!”

“I know!” Callie yowls. “When Perky and I have this problem, we like to bribe the creature with a reward they get in turn for being in our photo.”

“For example,” says Perky. “We may say that they can have their favorite food or maybe even a toy. Wanna try it?”

“Oh yeah!” I yowl.

We walk back to the jellyfish.

“Hey jellies,” Honeytoast purrs. “Would you be willing to be in a picture if you got to eat your favorite food.”

“Yes, please! The lead red jelly. “Jellyfish! Picture formation!!!!!”

“Say plankton!”

“PLANKTON!!!!”

It works for the monkeys and the parrots too! Pretty soon, we have enough photos for a collection for all of our humans’ houses.

THE END…
