French Revolution corrido

Hi fans,

In my history class, I had an assignment to research a revolution and make either a mural or a corrido (a type of folk song) about the revolution. I researched the French Revolution and wrote a corrido about it that I wanted to share. Here’s the lyrics I wrote:

The French Revolution is really wow.

Would you like to learn it all right now?

It’s full of many twists and turns.

And many revolts as you’ll learn.

There was once a system with King Louis at the top.

And poor peasants at the bottom, but this would soon stop.

Lots of money had the bourgeoisie.

But they didn’t have much power as you’ll see.

Peasants rose up against the two estates.

And even wrote a constitution with their mates.

When gold mines were found in Brazil.

Prices in the West rose higher and higher still.

Then the prices suddenly dropped.

And then came revolts, fresh and topped.

Everyone wanted all this to cease.

For everyone to be at peace.

The revolution raged for thirteen years.

With many hopes and many fears.

When the king dismissed his financial minister, which wasn’t fun.

Lots of French rose up at the Bastille Prison.

A new constitution was made there and then.

Guaranteeing the rights of man and citizen.

This ended King Louis’s terrible reign.

But don’t be fooled, there was more pain.

Napolean managed to spread it throughout the continent.

And even ordered his Directory to occupy Egypt.

Then there was made a coalition of several countries

And they successfully drove back the French armies.

Even though this was all years ago.

The ideas of the French Revolution still live on, you know.

Of treating people fair and just

And choosing our leaders, this all we must.

And now I must be on my way.

I hope you’ve learned on this fine day.

I leave you now, I cannot lie.

This is my time to say goodbye!

And here’s the lyric video I made with the music an instrumental version of a song by Los Tigres del Norte. See if you can sing along.

  2. Hi Lucas! I discovered your blog on the youtube channel special books by special kids. My family is Mexican, so the fact you used “Los Tigres del Norte” for this brought a smile to my face. Hilarious and good lyrics!! I’m currently studying to be a doctor and hope to some day open a clinic for people with disabilities in Texas. You are definitely an inspiration! Hope you keep up your great writing, it’s definitely entertaining a lot of people out here.

  3. Lucas, this was really well written. I have mainly read your Raven Diary series, but I found this impressive as well. I think you did a great job faithfully conveying the subject matter while also creating something lyrical. Great work!
