Raven diary #42: The Funeral pt 1

Dear diary,

Raven here.

I have some sad news folks. Not to ruin anyone’s holiday season, but a dear friend and longtime pen pal of mine, Lloyd has passed away. He lived a long life, and I will miss him dearly. That being said, I’ve decided to go down to the Bay Area for Lloyd’s funeral. I invited Lolli and Honeytoast too.

“So,” says Honeytoast as we board the CatAir 3000. “If you don’t mind me asking, how exactly did Lloyd die?”

“Well,” I meow as we take seats in the back next to an elderly looking tabby cat with silvery gray fur. “From what I’ve heard, Lloyd was 17 years old and just couldn’t live any longer.”

The gray tabby looks over at us. His face looks worn with age and his right ear is torn off.

“Are you headed to Lloyd Baxter’s funeral?” the feline asks in a scratchy voice. “I’m his grandfather, Jonathan Baxter, and I was very connected to my grandson.” At this, tears welled up in in Jonathan’s eyes.

“He only lived six lives,” he cried, wiping tears away with his paws. “He had so much more to give to the world!!!!!!”

We hear a voice over the intercom, interrupting Jonathan’s words.

“Good evening, California bound passengers. I’m your pilot, Mary Melinda Mauser, but everyone calls me Mistress Mauser. Please make sure your seatbelts are fastened securely so your life, whichever one you’re on, doesn’t end early. Anyway. Please keep all ears, paws and tails in the vehicle at all times. Snacks are provided in your seat and our TV has countless options to choose from Shrekitten to Catilda to every single season of SpongeCat SquarePaws. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.”

  1. Dear Raven,

I’m sorry about Lloyd. Lloyd’s grandpa was surely having a rough time, understandably. It was nice to learn the details of your trip, though.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Your friend,

  2. Lloyd would have meowed approvingly at this wonderful tribute, Lucas. I am honored to have him memorialized by you 🙏🙏🙏🙏
